  • Community Watch Control Room Iraq. If the police maintain such a fear of terrorist attack fostered by those who use the Internet, why has there been such a wasted effort carried out against me for almost nine and one-half years 24/7 while terrorism has flourished in London apparently as a result?

1. The world's most wanted cyber-jihadist. Why is there so much false activity generated against me 24/7 for nearly a decade by hundreds of people and numerous government departments when there are threats nearby as is illustrated here. Are these threats being created by the abuse of surveillance technology both by wasting resources and providing an incentive for the terrorists?

The world's most wanted cyber-jihadist

By Gordon Corera, BBC News security correspondent

When police raided a flat in West London in October 2005, they arrested a young man, originally from Morocco, called Younes Tsouli. They had no idea, at the time, just how significant he was.

Undated police picture of Younis Tsouli
Younis Tsouli described himself online as Terrorist 007
From his bedroom on an ordinary road in Shepherds Bush, he had become one of the most notorious cyber-jihadists in the world.

The story of Younis Tsouli, or Terrorist 007 as he styled himself, reveals how virtual terrorist networks can emerge out of sight of the authorities and not only radicalise the young online but also help them carry out terrorist attacks.

Tsouli had begun browsing the web for extremist material but quickly became much more than an observer. He took on the user name of Irhabi 007 - Irhabi meaning Terrorist in Arabic.

He began posting advice on hacking and uploaded extremist propaganda but soon began to try to help those planning attacks

. . .

Tsouli may be behind bars but the number of extremist websites is growing by the day. The fear is that the story of Terrorist 007 may have been a warning of a threat that is still out there and that is still growing.

The world's most wanted cyber-jihadist

2. Community Watch Control Room Iraq. Today I posted an entry on Humphrey Hawksley's blog about a report he made on BBC News24 last night against the background of other recent reports and his writings as noted below. I've copied it here since it ties in with the above arrest in the nearby Shepherd's Bush area a couple years ago which is in the news today. There are some items which I've noted here earlier, but I wanted to bring them together with this overall problem of wasting vast resources on an innocent person for so long a period of time when there is a serious threat from terrorism.

I also wanted to add that the impact of carrying such destructive surveillance technology activity which is placed at the disposal and under the operational control of those who engage in antisocial and criminal behaviour is to create such standards in the community. The ultimate effect is exactly the opposite by creating an environment where antisocial, criminal and ultimately terrorists behaviour flourishes.

Anyone who is remotely connected with law enforcement who believes that this kind of control in the community which has been taking place against me for almost a decade has a beneficial effect is sadly mistaken by the facts revealed by the outcome of actually what has happened. This provides a sanctuary for those who wish to be antisocial and carry out out criminal acts. All they have to do is gain the protection of those using the surveillance technology, and they can go further and further along that path until they reach terrorism as this cyber terrorist in number 1 above did.

When this surveillance technology is not used properly, the results are the opposite of what society has intended. Society is then further victimised including a high risk from terrorist attacks. What does policing in the community really mean.

The comments below pertain to a report by Humphrey Hawksley on News24 last night before I switched over to BBC Four until 0200 for the second night in a row. It also refers to two articles by Humphrey Hawksley:

Yale Global Online: An Empowered Middle East – Part II

BBC News: Economic boost gives hope to Iraqis

BBC Four has provided an incredibly outstanding two nights of documentary programming revolving around Iraq during the past five years. These are stunning programmes and warrant extensive comments about them which cannot be done here.

My comments posted on Humphrey Hawksley's blog as he departs Iraq for Dubai:

The world knows that this is a US presidential election year. JFK was facing mid-term elections the first week in November 1962 while he handled the Cuban Missile crisis. He mislead the American public by hiding the fact that he traded US Jupiter missiles in Turkey as a quid pro quo to get the Soviet Union to remove its missiles and nuclear warheads (as it turned out) from Cuba. This remained hidden for a couple decades and did not emerge until the 1980s.

I was stationed in Trabzon, Turkey, on the Black Sea for 12 months from the beginning of November 1963 at an NSA/USAF Security Service intercept site 90 miles from the then Soviet border. During the Cuban Missile Crisis I had been stationed at HQ USAFSS. The Berlin Wall went up in August 1961 just after I joined the USAF for my national service. We certainly considered our job important at this pinnacle of the Cold War.

I had no idea that the Jupiter missiles had been slated for removal until I met and enjoyed a friendship in 1964 with a group of guys working in Rize, Turkey, for Marconi and Hawker Siddley under NATO contract to retrain Turkish missile men into radar. Rize was 45 miles closer to the then Soviet border. These guys were from such places as Kent, Yorkshire, Glasgow, Dublin and Paris.

The mid-term elections turned out well for the Democrats, but JFK had misled the American people for political reasons regarding the true nature of the resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis. (See Seymour Hersh's The Dark Side of Camelot Chs. 20 Missile Crisis and 21 Deception; this is also discussed in James Bamford's Body of Secrets Ch. 5 Eyes; also see the film Thirteen)

Deception occurred with respect to Vietnam shortly afterward by the US military concerning the Battle of Ap Bac on 2nd January 1963 as described by Neil Sheehan in his book A Bright Shining Lie (Book III The Battle of Ap Bac). The reality of that battle was hidden with its numbers distorted in favour of US policy supporting the South Vietnamese Army (ARVN). Neil Sheehan considered this deception the turning point in Vietnam that eventually led to the catastrophe it became.

I am reserving judgment about the current situation in Iraq until all the facts can be known. That does not mean that I am not hopeful that it will work for the overall good in Iraq, and that the terrorist violence is subsiding along with a rejuvenation of human activity. My question remains: how is this occurring?

I saw your report about an improved Baghdad neighbourhood on BBC News24 last night and thought it an excellent and fascinating report. Since BBC News24 is on the Internet, I hope the world saw it too. At the same time there have been two solid evenings of incredibly brilliant programmes on BBC Four (tragically not available in the Internet (yet?)) drawn from the last five years since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. The complexity and reality of what is taking place in Iraq has been and is subject to manipulation and deceit along with extreme US military abuse.

Your ability to report from inside a "neighbourhood watch" point (or so it appeared) including the presence of a Colonel who was formerly a Baathist party member was extraordinary but raised questions. I was intrigued by the admission that both sides had been characterised as evil incarnate until they started communicating with each other to discover that age old truth that these characterisations were false. People are the same everywhere: a complex combination of good and bad.

On page 122 of The History Book you describe a counter surveillance technique where "Kat creates a protective cordon against being monitored. The flash card emits a radio signal that jams triangulation of the cell phone's signal. It also throws out an electronic decoy screen, which deceives remote surveillance on the computer."

The second part of this statement is absolutely fascinating and ties in with my experience as well as raising questions about the "neighbourhood watch" control room you visited. Tempest: that ability to intercept the smallest of electromagnetic radiation emissions against which Kat has created a "decoy screen."

I've been contending with Tempest and son of Tempest for over nine years. Once I put a colour transparency in front of my notebook computer's screen thus changing its pulsed emissions frequency. Those using Tempest in the flat below went berserk.

These were the people whom I had reported for criminal activity, yet they had been given surveillance technology to use against me. They didn't have a clue about what they were doing technically and thus gave it all away. They called in a technician who soon corrected the problem and showed them how to tune to another frequency when I used different coloured transparencies.

I began to think about frequency hopping emissions as a method for preventing interception by Tempest. However, former US Marines Lt Harry Bird and Colonel Vine arrived with their more sophisticated surveillance technology in February 2001. Tempest is predicated upon intercepting the smallest emission which means that it can detect the various array of such emissions coming from all components of a computer.

Thus, they could theoretically go behind the emissions from the screen, and that is what I determined they were able to do. On one occasion while I was working with my notebook at the Internet shop easyEverything on Kensington High Street in 2001 (before 9/11), Lt Harry Bird forgot to bring his intercept software with him, and I was unable to use my notebook.

I had long since learned that they uploaded their surveillance software onto my computers when I booted them. This included a keyboard map for their surveillance activity. All of this is done by electromagnetic radiation communication with the target computer and requires no connections whatsoever. When he did not have his software which included the keyboard map, I could not use my notebook because the keys would not work. Although it booted up to the password prompt, that was as far as I could get. When I got home later and turned it on, it worked fine. Lt Harry Bird was back in possession of his surveillance technology software.

This surveillance technology they used also includes the ability to transmit sound by electromagnetic radiation so that I was kept well informed about all that was happening and why. I could hear all that Lt Harry Bird was saying to a Special Branch officer called "Paul" as he apologised profusely for forgetting to bring along the software. Surveillance of someone at home, on the move or at any other location is now quite easy and has been before 9/11 as I've directly experienced. The 9/11 terrorist attack had nothing to do with the use of this surveillance technology.

This brings me back to the "neighbourhood watch" control room you were able to film while describing its pacifying impact on what had been a previously more violent area. I wonder just what kind of technology was being used in that or other such rooms and what kind of surveillance was being carried out to bring about a reduction in the violence.

If I look back upon the past almost nine and one-half years of surveillance technology abuse against me in the hands of the rogues and criminals for an indefinite period, I wonder what the implications are for human activity and for such societies as Iraq? If it is used like this in a place like London for control purposes, the implications for all aspects of human activity everywhere are quite grave indeed.

The real issues are how can we trust the military mind set rolled out into the community of western democracies when it has a history of deception of the worst kind which is now brought to bear in the community for control purposes? On top of that there are the politicians who are equally willing to deceive for their own political purposes. Each needs to deceive and then cover up the deception with further deceit.

I am vilified in the extreme by continuous false allegations and fear mongering from those using this surveillance technology to try to create an "enemy" reflecting the US military methodology of torture and control. Although I see a statement by a US military type in Baghdad claiming that they were wrong about those they considered enemies, I wonder how far this realisation actually goes when such activity is carried out in London of all places by US military personnel in the community for the purpose of control to satisfy their own greed, glory and power objectives by means of instituting state terror? Worst of all, however, is [the issue about] who are letting them do this?

George Orwell had no idea what technology had in store for the population, but he certainly had the human character right.
