Hundreds of corruption inquiries at Immigration

By Ben Leapman and Melissa Kite

More than 700 charges of corruption were levelled against Home Office immigration staff in one year, an investigation by MPs has found.

The shocking figure emerges today in a damning report by an all-party committee, which concludes that the enforcement of immigration law is "clearly inadequate".

The Home Office: 'Not fit for purpose'

It comes as a further blow to John Reid, the Home Secretary, as he prepares to announce a doubling of the immigration budget along with a series of initiatives to strengthen Britain's borders.

The revelation about the extent of corruption follows claims this year that immigration officials at Lunar House, the Croydon headquarters of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND), offered visas in return for sexual favours.

Living Room Temp/Humidity WE 23.07.2006

Speaking of corruption: last week's living room temperature was just under 35C for the first day of last week and then held at an ever increasing minimum level climbing up to about 38C before easing off at the end of the week but only to just above 35C. The humidity climbed during the last half of the week from a central tendency around 30% during the first half up to about 35% with spikes during the second half. It's standard deviation (variance) was larger.

This is the inside humidity. Outside humidity gets low during the highest level of heat in the afternoon but is quite high upwards of some 80% in the early morning. That is reflected by a higher humidity spike at that time inside. The humidity stepped up at ever increasing levels during the last half of the week. This is quite interesting actually especially if you have to sit inside and "enjoy" it.

Those carrying out the surveillance activity interfere in all aspects of life attacking everything. The sum total of continuous interference succeeds in preventing me from allowing the contractor to change the central heating valve in this flat. Here are some objectively measured results of their extremely destructive efforts as I described yesterday. Stop the surveillance technology abuse so that normal life can continue along with allowing those trying to do a decent job to get on with it.

There are many implications in terms of different kinds of costs with regard to this interference which has occurred in the past in a more abusive and intrusive manner creating serious liabilites for these outside contractors hired by tenant management. Unlawful and criminal activity nullifies contractual obligations and incures damages. People cannot be held legally responsible for not fulfilling a contract if they are prevented from doing so. It would be a mistake to blame me for what is being done to me. The source of the problem originates from those using the surveillance technology.
