Home Temperature & Humidity Chart from 6th July 2005 1000 to 11th May 2006 2300  Enlarge

Last Thursday night, 11th May 2006, I decided to download the temperature and humidity logger (see below) that had been in operation for a few days over ten months logging the temperature and humidity every 30 minutes.  This was the first time I had downloaded this information since setting it in operation on 6th July 2005 after the second heat wave when the central heating remanied on throughout the summer.  I splurged on the 50 pounds sterling necessary for this little jewel of a logger that included the software for graphical representation as noted.  I basically forgot about it for ten months while it sat on a desk space area near me that was free of any external souce of heat.

The battery life indicator had said that it would last about eleven months when logging at 30 minute intervals, so I thought it was about time to download the data to see what it looked like before the battery died.  The graphic output thumbnail noted to the right which can be enlarged shows the centigrade termperature in red (left bar readings), humidity in blue (right bar readings) and the dew point in green.  This reflects my general experience with the temperature during the past ten months that I note daily with a thermometer on the desktop next to a computer.   The excessive heat was excellently logged.

During July and August of last year (2005), the living room temperature where I carry on with my activity day and night was over 30C for almost all the time dropping only to 29.5C as the lowest.  There were two high spike periods in July and at the beginning of September 2005 when the temperature went over 35C.  While it is seriously uncomfortable above 30C, the real misery begins about 34C and above.  For the most part September and October 2005 had periods mostly above 30C, but there were longer periods just under 30C.  It was not until mid-November 2005 that the living room temperature came into the comfortable range of the mid-20sC which basically held for the winter until the end of March 2006.

However, during April 2006 the living room temperature was above and below 30C as a central tendency with one exception when it got cold with the temperature going back down to 25C.  In early May 2006 there was a spike to 35C when the termperature hit a mini-heat wave.  This chart reflects the reality of the excessive termperatures which occur inside due to the central heating being left on throughout the year during summer.  During hot weather once it gets hot in here, it does not cool off readily.  Fortunately, the humidity remains reasonable, and the dew point is no problem.

Copy of the Monday, 11th August 2003, Email to the Leader of the Council with a copy of the letter sent by fax to the Tenant Management Chief Executive that same date. These were about the central heating left on during the summers at the Lancaster West Estate and the extraordnary heat wave which was then occurring and its threat to life.

Copy of the Second Notice Tuesday, 12th August 2003, Email to the Leader of the Council about the fact that the central heating remained turned on 24 hours after my first notice during a life threatening heat wave.

Copy of the Monday, 22nd June 2005, Email to BBC London after they presented the local news on Breakfast TV requesting that viewers let them know how they were coping with the then heat wave. This Email was my response to this ongoing problem.

I have no interest in the company that makes these temperature and humidity loggers but want to supply the information about them since I've had satisfactory usage from this one so far for anyone who is interested. Lasker Electronics Inc in the US and Lasker Electronics Limited in the UK make this product. I use the EL-USB-2 which produced the above results.
